Some professional opportunities are really once in a lifetime. One of these is the chance to co-guest edit (or as a colleague put it, "to curate") a journal special issue. The Journal of School Health haas been my professional journal for over twenty years. Last week, Every School Healthy: Policy, Research, and Action became available as an open access (available to everyone) special issue.
Working with my co-guest editor, Holly Hunt, and fourteen groups of talented authors, we have created a special issue that seeks to put equity front and center in the field of school health. I will be writing more later this week about the process we used to identify the article authors, but for now I want to highlight the diversity of topics and authors we were able to bring together.
In addition to Holly, the authors, I want to thank my colleague Karen Ellis of MMS Education for her support. Finally a huge thank you to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation which funded the issue and invited me to be one of the guest editors.
